- A new study from Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital, published in Nature Communications, reveals that wearable devices tracking circadian rest-activity rhythms can predict frailty-related health risks in older adults over six years in advance. Researchers studied 1,022 adults, averaging 81 years, from the Rush Memory and Aging Project. They found that disturbances in daily rest-activity patterns, measured by these devices, were linked to a higher risk of frailty. These patterns included changes in rhythm amplitude, stability, and variability. The study highlights the potential of wearable technology in early detection and intervention for age-related decline. However, it notes limitations such as the impact of environmental factors and the need for improved sleep assessment in future research. Read more.
